Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- Milton's Arbor Day celebration last Friday at the Milton City Park and Preserve was a huge success. City staff, police officers, firefighters and community members enjoyed refreshments, creating peanut butter-seed bird feeders, saw the planting of two-winged elm trees and much more! A few days earlier, 11 similar trees were along the City property's natural trail. "Those wishing to learn more – anytime! – about trees and their importance to our city can visit www.miltonga.gov/PlantMilton." (City of Milton)
- February is Black History Month, and the Milton Library has events to reflect on the contributions made by African Americans. Earlier this week, the History Book Club met to discuss:" The Autobiography of Malcolm X." On Saturday, Feb. 25 at noon, the award-winning short documentary, “Big Mama” will be shown. In addition, the virtual reality, “Tour of the White House with the Obamas” will be at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27. (Milton Library)
- Attention all "Little Women" fans, you can see the musical performed by Act3 Productions in Sandy Springs. The story about four sisters by Louisa May Alcott "parallels many of the challenges we all faced as the pandemic disrupted our lives." The play is showing over three weekends at the Act3 Playhouse, located at 6285-R Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. Tickets are available at www.act3productions.org. (MDJOnline.com)

- Alpharetta Citizen's Academy students learned about the city's HazMat Team last week. They were shown the hazmat truck (HazMat 84) and equipment. They also toured the Fire Station and learned about proper use of fire extinguishers. Depending on the fire and circumstances, there are different types of extinguishers that should be used. (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
- Motorists driving south on Alpharetta's Westside Parkway between Maxwell Road and Encore Parkway could experience delays, as there are lane closures this week. The closures are due to repairs being made to the road. Driving north on Westside Parkway is not affected. https://bit.ly/3k9R3r1
