Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Two children fell through the ice at Ellison Lake in nearby Kennesaw on Dec. 28. One was rescued and the other one couldn't be saved. A few children were playing near the lake and a couple were walking on the ice when it broke. The neighbors called 911, and police, firefighters and a Georgia State Patrol helicopter plus a drone unit showed up. One child was pulled out and rushed to the hospital; they tried to save the second child but it was too late. "Three members of Cobb Fire were also treated at the scene for cold exposure that they suffered when they entered the freezing water to try and rescue the second victim. "(FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Are your children interested in taking an art class? The City of Milton has a new program, taught by Kidcreate Art Studio for children ages 3-12. Classes will take place at the Community Center in Milton City Park and Preserve at 1785 Dinsmore Road; they will include paint, clay and more. They will be held weekly on Wed., and there will be some one day programs on school holidays. (City of Milton)
  3. Greater Atlanta Christian students in nearby Norcross collected and recently donated more than 20,000 cans to the Salvation Army! They used different incentives and competitions to encourage donations. The donations were part of the Salvation Army's Can-A-Thon, which GAC has supported for the past 10 years. The City recently put up signs to remind drivers to be at least three feet away from bicycles at the following locations: "Freemanville Road near Landrum Road, Freemanville Road north of Redd Road, and Birmingham Road near Freemanville (and the newly opened greenspace there)." The signs are part of the Local Road Safety Plan. (City of Milton)
