Travel on State Route 9 / Main Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction this Saturday, February 19, as contractors working for the Georgia Department of Transportation continue a project to widen and reconstruct the roadway.  The closures will impact the area located between Old Milton Parkway and Upper Hembree Road from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday.

“Unlike the sporadic lane closures that we have been seeing on weekdays for the past several months, one southbound and one northbound lane will be completely closed in the entire stretch between Old Milton and Upper Hembree,” explained Pete Sewczwicz, Alpharetta’s Director of Public Works.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is widening and reconstructing the 3.6-mile stretch of State Route 9 that runs through Alpharetta from Upper Hembree Road and Windward Parkway.  When complete, the SR 9 Widening and Improvements Project will create two lanes in each direction, a raised median, additional turn lanes at key intersections, traffic and pedestrian signal upgrades, a multi-use trail, a bicycle lane, on-street parking, lighting and landscaping. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2024.
