MILTON, GA — The public is invited to honor and celebrate those who gave their lives fighting for their countrymen at the City of Milton’s Memorial Day ceremony.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 30, on the grounds of Freedom Park at the intersection of Deerfield Parkway and Webb Road.

Memorial Day is an opportunity to honor the more than 1 million troops who died while serving the United States, from the first shots of the Revolutionary War, through more recent conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The keynote speaker for Milton’s Memorial Day Ceremony will be Bob Babcock. An Army veteran who served in Vietnam, Babcock created Americans Remembered, which in turn became a founding partner of the Veterans History Project. Part of the Library of Congress, this initiative collects war stories from members of all military branches. Babcock’s organization has gathered over 1,200 video memories of veterans, most of them from World War II, allowing their powerful stories to live on indefinitely. He’s also authored military-themed books, been president of the National 4th Infantry Division Association, and worked to support veterans in various ways.

In addition to Babcock, the event will feature remarks from Mayor Peyton Jamison, patriotic music, a color guard presentation by Milton first responders, and more.
