Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. Milton's Crabapple Fest will take place this fall, and it's time to apply to become a vendor if you're interested. This event is very popular and attracts tens of thousands of people. They need food, art, clothing, gifts, etc. The deadline for applying is June; if you have questions, email anita.jupin@miltonga.gov. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  2. There will be a free class for Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events tomorrow, April 30, at First Baptist Church at 710 Mimosa Blvd. in Roswell. It will be run by the Roswell Police Department, and will take place from 4-6 p.m. "The class provides strategies, guidance and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter." Registration is not required. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. Settlements regarding opioids were reached with Teva, Allergan, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart. These settlements require the companies "to pay more than $20 billion to provide prevention and treatment of opioid addiction." Alpharetta is trying to obtain some of those funds, as they will be divided between state and local governments. The city recently approved a memorandum of understanding, which is part of the process. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. The City of Roswell is planning to shut down Canton Street to drivers this summer, and some of the merchants are concerned. Closing the street will eliminate 39 parking spaces and might make it difficult for merchants receive deliveries from trucks. Roswell Mayor Kurt Wilson said the summer closure is a trial run. “We think it’s going to be great for the community, we think it’s going to be great for the businesses. Obviously, we wouldn’t do it if we thought it was going to hurt any businesses.” (WSB Atlanta)
