Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. Mark your calendar for Milton's Earth Day event, which will take place this Saturday at Milton City Park and Preserve (1785 Dinsmore Road) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The activities include a gardening demonstration, guided bird walks, beekeeping session, and more. There is no cost for the sessions, and people are asked to register for them in advance at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F4FAAA929ABF9C16-earth1. In addition, there will be refreshments and other family friendly activities. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  2. Do you know a high school student who wants to serve as a Fulton County Youth Commissioner? This leadership program requires students to volunteer up to 20 hours per month, and advocate for children and youth issues in the county. They will improve their leadership skills and facilitate communication between Fulton County leaders and youths in the community. The deadline to apply is May 19. (Fulton County)
  3. The City of Alpharetta has decided to have Fulton County manage its municipal election this fall. Initially, Alpharetta considered partnering with Johns Creek, Milton and Roswell to manage elections jointly instead of having them run by Fulton County. The City of Milton is the only one from that group who will be managing its own elections this fall. (Subscription: Alpharetta-Roswell Herald)
  4. The Milton Library is closed for renovations needed from rain damage that occurred earlier this year. The plans are to reopen the library on May 10, and you can find updates at the library's website, (https://www.fulcolibrary.org/locations/milton/). Until then, you can pick up and drop off books at other Fulton County libraries. The Alpharetta Library is located at 10 Park Plaza. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  5. Alpharetta's Union Hill Park is eligible for more upgrades following a City Council meeting earlier this week. The 11-acre park could have a new art installation, swings, slides, relocated skate park and upgraded restrooms. It is the only designated area for skating in the city.
