Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- Milton's Earth Day Celebration will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (weather permitting) at Milton City Park and Preserve. North Fulton Charities is asking participants to bring fruit cups for their summer food drive. Attendees can learn about beekeeping, meet rescued animals, take a bird tour and more! - Many children and their parents recently made "seed bombs" at a program at the Milton Library. They are balls made of clay, soil and wildflower seeds. They can be placed at any location where wildflowers can grow, group and attract pollinators including bees and butterflies. This activity was part of Milton's Earth Week's celebration. - Do you need any new native plants or summer vegetable plants? There will be a Spring Native & Edible Plant Sale on Saturday, April 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Old Rucker Farm in Alpharetta. "All of the native plants for sale are native to the Southeast, have been rescued or purchased from local nurseries, are free of neonicotinoids, and safe for pollinators. " While you're there, stop by Garden Faire, which is in the grove the Wills Park Community Center. If you can't find parking at Old Rucker Farm, there will be a shuttle every 15 minutes from Amana Academy (285 South Main St. in Alpharetta). - Are you familiar with the Alpharetta Fire Corps? Their job is to support firefighters from Alpharetta and nearby communities while they're working at an emergency. The Fire Corps volunteers provide water, food, refill air packs and more! - This summer there will be a free concert series on the terrace and lawn of the Alpharetta Arts Center! They will take place on the second Friday of the month from June through August. - Are you looking for a new pet? There are dogs and cats in our area who need a home. "With help from our friends at Petfinder, Patch has compiled this week’s list of animals available for adoption near you." Click on the listings to learn more about specific pets. (Alpharetta-Milton Patch)
- There are plans for the commercial center at the intersection of Medlock Bridge Road and State Bridge Road in Johns Creek. The city has budgeted $154,100 for a revitalization plan that will be used to redevelop it into a mixed-use village center. The Sizemore Group will create the plan; they recently completed a project at Highway 9 at Holcomb Bridge Road and Ga. 400. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Alpharetta based Annoviant, which is a medical device company, makes products for children and infants who are fighting congenital heart disease. Their TxGuard device "is a Pulmonary Valved Graft that uses tissue healing and regenerative technology for valve replacements and other key surgeries." The advantage of this device is that it grows with the patient, which can help avoid future surgeries and rejection. This company was started by Ajay Houde and Naren Vyavahare in 2018. - The Milton Indoor Drumline group is competing at the WGI Percussion World Championships in Dayton, Ohio! They will be performing their 2023 show View Askew, which is inspired by "the artwork of MC Escher." The music composition and show design were put together by Percussion Director Kevin Kenney. - The Armenian Church of Atlanta is hosting a free event this Sunday, April 23, to remember victims of the Armenian Genocide and the ongoing conflict in Artsakh. The program will take place at the Double Tree Roswell, located at 1075 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell from 1:30-4:30 p.m. It will include speakers and music, and everyone is welcome. (ACOA)
