Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:
- Milton's Earth Day Celebration was a huge success last Saturday. Approximately 200 attended and enjoyed educational activities. For example, there was a bird walk led by a volunteer from Georgia Audubon, gardening sessions, and tips on building a fairy garden. In addition, there was face painting, crafts, instruction on how to compost and much more! (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook).
- A Roswell man contacted police because he was scammed out of $80,000. Someone contacted the victim claiming to be from Publisher’s Clearing House and told him that he had won $10.5 million and a car. The scammers asked the victim to send them checks for taxes and other expenses. He sent them checks totaling $120,000 and then figured out it was a scam. He cancelled $40,000 of the checks before they were cashed. The victim gave police information on where he sent the checks. (appenmedia.com)
- Three exotic birds were recently kidnapped from R. Thomas Deluxe Grill, which is a popular restaurant in Buckhead. Police were able to recover the birds because they were able to see suspect Adam Deck's tag number on camera during the alleged theft. All of the security cameras at the restaurant except one had been disabled. The police went to Deck's home in Atlanta and found the parrots. "It is not clear why the birds were stolen." (Fox 5)
- Do you have any batteries at home that you need to dispose of? You can bring them to Milton's City Hall during business hours this week; they have bins to drop them off. They can accept only single-use alkaline and dry-cell rechargeable batteries with nickel and lithium and cell phones (wipe your data off). Every cell phone and battery must be individually bagged. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- The Milton Police Department wants to remind residents to call them if your home or car has been entered unlawfully. Do not enter your car or home, and don't touch anything, as there could be evidence. You should call 911 immediately and they will send an officer out to help you. The same goes for Alpharetta residents, they should call the police if there is a robbery. (Milton Police Department via Facebook)
