Fulton School System Names Interim Superintendent

Dr. Cindy Loe served as Fulton County superintendent from 2008 to 2011 before retiring to become a leadership consultant.

ALPHARETTA, GA — The Fulton County School Board on Tuesday voted to appoint Dr. Cindy Loe as interim superintendent of the Fulton County Schools System.

Dr. Loe will work closely with the School Board and current Superintendent Dr. Jeff Rose on a transition plan to ensure focus on the current strategic plan, as well as the successful execution of daily operations of the district.

The appointment comes two weeks after Dr. Rose announced he would not seek a contract renewal with the school board and resign from the post.

“Dr. Loe has a depth of experience as an educational leader, and since the time she retired as Fulton County Superintendent, has continued to live in the community,” said Board Vice President Linda McCain. “She has long-standing relationships with parents, school and community leaders, and has continued to be a supporter of Fulton County Schools. I think she is the right leader to help us through the transition.”

Dr. Loe served as Fulton County superintendent from 2008 to 2011 before retiring and becoming a leadership consultant supporting school systems and superintendents with training educational leaders. Dr. Loe began her career as an elementary teacher, later rising up in the Gwinnett County School System to serve in a variety of roles, including principal.

In her last role with Gwinnett as the associate superintendent for Teaching and Learning, she worked on a daily basis with principals and area superintendents, and also developed the district’s curriculum, including special needs support programs.

While at FCS, Dr. Loe implemented “cross functional action teams,” which led to the recommendation and design of the system becoming a charter district. In addition, her leadership and foresight put Fulton schools in a strong fiscal position during the recent recession and helped set a precedent for continued success.

Highlights during her Fulton County tenure also include creating a leadership development program for aspiring principals and the Superintendent’s Community Advisory Council, which created new opportunities for the district to establish meaningful relationships with community groups.

“I am honored to work with the Fulton County School Board once again to support the continued high performance of the district and to address existing challenge areas,” Dr. Loe said. “I look forward to connecting with district leaders, parents, and school staff as we work together to lead our students in reaching their full potential.”

Dr. Loe’s effective date will be determined in the coming weeks. She will not be a candidate for the position, and will assist the School Board as it begins the process to search for a permanent replacement.
