Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- Motorists should avoid driving north on State Route 9 in Alpharetta this upcoming Sunday, March 5. All lanes will be closed between Roswell Street, Maxwell Road and Devore Road due to utility work. There will be a detour; drivers will need to go to Old Milton Parkway eastbound before returning to State Route 9. Southbound travel won't be affected. (City of Alpharetta GA via Facebook)
- Last week, members of Milton's Fire Department's CARES program taught volunteer coaches what to do in case of a medical emergency. The coaches learned CPR, how to use an AED, and help someone who's choking. Both Memorial Park and Legacy Park have AEDs. They were taught by firefighters Derek Hofmann, Mary Glasgow, and Justin Steele in two separate sessions. - City of Milton employees recently enjoyed a celebration for Black History Month. They played "fun in-theme trivia, enjoy yummy soul food, and spent time with one another." They also viewed posters that containing stories about prominent African Americans. During the month, they learned about prominent African Americans including Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and Super Bowl LVII’s two starting quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts. - The owner of Ippolito's restaurant in Roswell has been charged with sexual crimes involving two minors. Brian Ippolito was arrested for allegedly sending obscene material to two 16 year olds. Police became involved after being told in January by Milton High School officials about inappropriate behavior. Brian Ippolito isn't involved with Ippolito's Alpharetta or Suwanee; they were sold years ago. (FOX 5 Atlanta)

- Drivers are reminded to obey speed limits in our area to decrease the possibility of fatal accidents. These speed limits are set to protect pedestrians and cyclists in addition to drivers. A graph in this link outlines the consequences of traveling at different speeds. (City of Alpharetta)
- Are you interested in getting ready for high school theater auditions? The Milton Arts Council is excited to announce our Audition Workshop! This session will be taught by MHS theater and University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance alum, Lauren Dominguez-Kenner. It is designed to improve knowledge of and confidence in the high school theater audition process. The workshop will be held Saturday, March 11 from 1-4 p.m. at Community Place, adjacent to City Hall in Milton. - The Milton Arts Council is pleased to announce a scholarship opportunity for high school students. The Hogan Family Arts Scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from a family in our community. It will be available to all high school seniors who live or go to school in Milton and will be majoring in an area of the arts in an accredited college or university. - The Alpharetta Planning Commission meets this evening at City Hall starting at 6:30 p.m. Their agenda includes some new projects in the downtown area, both residential and commercial. Here is the agenda and packet https://bit.ly/3Z9B6jM. (City of Alpharetta)
- Soon, there will be a new fence at Milton's Legacy Park. It will separate the detention pond from other areas including field number 3, which will improve safety. The height will be 6 feet, and it will be horse style. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
