Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Gas prices in Alpharetta and Milton inched up another three cents over this past week. However, they could drop again if the economy slows down. Last week, the national average dropped three cents. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. Polls show a close race between Sen. Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker for the upcoming Georgia Senate election. However, their results differ depending on the source of their data. As we get closer to election day, the poll results should become more consistent. (11 Alive)
  3. Good news for Alpharetta and Milton drivers — the first week of closed lanes on I-285 was better than expected. Many people returned to work and school on Tuesday, and the traffic moved well. “Drivers have handled the new I-285/eastbound lane restrictions at GA-400 very well,” AM and PM drive reporter Alex Williams explained. “I think they have listened to us and taken our advice of alternate routes. Delays have not been as bad as expected — unless we see a crash in that area, then it backs up rather quickly.” (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

Today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  • Katie Reeves Community Meeting at Summit Hill ES, 13855 Providence Road in Alpharetta (9:30 AM)
  • Milton High School Chorus Fall Concert on the Milton High School Lawn (6:00 PM)
  • Free Fall Garden Classes presented by Plant!Milton and the North Fulton Master Gardeners at 1785 Dinsmore Road in Alpharetta (6:45 PM)

From my notebook:

  • Drivers on Thompson Street in Milton should allow extra time due to construction. "Milling, patching and paving is expected to take place all this week along Thompson Road and the Hopewell Road roundabout. Only one lane should be closed at a time, with flaggers out, though that's still likely to lead to some delays. As with all road projects, bad weather and other factors could affect the timeline." (City of Milton)
  • If you haven't already, make sure to head to downtown Alpharetta to vote for your favorite scarecrow. There's little time left to vote, as he contest ends on Oct. 19. You can vote by posting a selfie with your favorite one; there are over 100 to choose from! (Alpharetta Scarecrow)
  • There is also a scarecrow contest in Roswell. The Roswell Woman’s Club is hosting the fifth annual BOO Y’aLL Scarecrow Contest in historic downtown Roswell. The contest challenges local businesses, organizations, schools, and teams to design and build their own scarecrows, all of which will line Canton Street through the month of October and voting ends on Oct. 29.
