Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. If you haven't already filled out your homestead exemption application, the deadline is coming up for this tax year. There are different options available including "basic" exemption and a special one for seniors. If you live in Milton and have questions, check here www.miltonga.gov/exemptions for more information. You could also email propertytaxes@miltonga.gov or call 678-242-2511. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  2. West Forsyth High School had an alleged shooting threat earlier this week. It was caused by a Snapchat image allegedly posted by a student. Police have taken that student into custody and cannot release their name because they are a minor. "We will be communicating to students later today that false threats of violence in a school setting are punishable by law so that they understand the severity of their actions," a spokesperson for the Forsyth County School System said in a message to parents and guardians Tuesday." (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  3. Recently, Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, Johns Creek and Mountain Park were given the option to manage their own elections, as opposed to having them managed by Fulton County. Milton is the only one that is planning to run their own elections in 2023. Roswell and Alpharetta extended their deadline to decide until mid-April, when they will most likely vote to remain with Fulton County. Mountain Park voted to wait until 2025, which will give them more time to be ready. If Fulton County conducts Alpharetta's election this year, the City will have to pay Fulton County $374,408, with additional cost if there is a runoff. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  4. Willie Elbert Kidd Jr. of Cobb County has been sentenced to 85 years due to a violent rampage at Rock Staffing in June of 2022. He had worked for the staffing agency and felt that he hadn't been paid the correct amount. He went to the office on Austell Road with a 5-inch-long hunting knife. He broke a window, knocked over a computer, threatened employees and stabbed a woman. Then, he left the office and was caught by police nearby. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
