  1. Milton's seniors will benefit from some of the ballot items on the recent election. One change will affect residents aged 65 and older, as there will be no income requirement to have an $25,000 exemption. Until now, these residents could have two exemptions, one for $10,000 based on income and another one for $15,000 that didn't have an income requirement. Another change increases the income requirement for residents aged 70+ to have a full exemption from $80,000 to $100,000 These voter-approved changes should take effect in 2023. (City of Milton)
  2. The Milton City Council will meet on Monday to discuss several issues, and one involves trees. Sandra DeWitt, who is Milton's arborist, will present the results of a study on how much tree coverage there is. Milton has an ordinance that requires the amount of tree canopy coverage to be 57 percent, which is what was present in March 2017. The public is invited to attend this meeting. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA is inviting all veterans and active service men and women to sign up for a free one day pass today. This offer is to honor our veterans; they can take advantage of it at any YMCA in the Metro Atlanta area. In addition, veterans and active military qualify for discounted membership fees. From my notebook:

  • Motorists are encouraged to slow down and be cautious when the roads are wet, as they were yesterday. There were many accidents on GA400 during rush hour, and some were due to hydroplaning. Wet leaves can make the roads even more slippery. (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
  • Kudos to Milton's Joy Lim Nakrin and her rescue horse, Enduring Honor. They were winners at a recent Incentive Program championship that was in Aiken, S.C. “This brings me so much hope for the future for rescues," Nakrin said in a news release. "It just shows that when given the right opportunities and care, rescues can hang with the best. They absolutely deserve a second chance." (Patch)
  • The Cogburn Woods Elementary School is asking dads to help out with carpool on Friday mornings. Parent volunteers have been doing this for years. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Isaac Howard at howardisaac4@gmail.com. He has been organizing our dads and father figures to be visible at the school.
