Impaired Driver Hits Pole, Knocks Out Power Near Downtown Alpharetta

An impaired driver crashed into a power pole near Roswell Street in downtown Alpharetta on Sunday, knocking out the power.

ALPHARETTA, GA — Power was knocked out for several hours on Sunday to many businesses and residents near downtown Alpharetta after an impaired driver hit a power pole and fled.

According to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety, Roswell Street at Marietta Street to Milton Avenue at Roswell Street and Old Roswell Street at Roswell Street were blocked starting around 6 p.m. due to the damaged power pole and downed power lines.

Numerous 911 calls and witnesses were able to describe the vehicle that hit the pole and left the scene, helping officers locate the hit-and-run driver. Further investigation revealed the driver was impaired, and the driver was arrested.

Georgia Power arrived in downtown Alpharetta around 9 p.m. to repair the light pole. While teams worked on the repair, power was out in the area. All businesses and residences in the downtown area were affected.
