Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- A middle school student in nearby Cobb County was stabbed in the lunchroom by another student during an altercation. Summer Thomas was stabbed multiple times at Daniell Middle School in Marietta; she is in the hospital and is traumatized. The student who stabbed her was also injured. The school district is " handling this situation according to state law and district policies, including discipline and criminal charges." (WSB-TV)
- The City of Milton and Kidcreate Art Studio have partnered to offer a new art program for children ages 3-12. It's being offered at the Community Center at Milton City Park and Preserve. Upcoming classes include weekly ones, plus mini "camps" during school vacation days. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Residents of the following seven counties in Georgia might be eligible for assistance following the severe storms last week: Butts, Henry, Jasper, Meriwether, Newton, Spalding and Troup counties. The types of assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and debris removal. - Atlanta has the tenth worst traffic in the country. The cities with the most congestion are Chicago, Boston and New York. A typical driver in Atlanta would lose up to an average of 74 hours per year from being in traffic, according to a study done by INRIX. That amount is down 10 percent from pre-COVID levels. - Here are spotlights on a couple of seniors on the Alpharetta High School Swim and Dive Team. Olivia has been swimming since she was six and was on the AHS Swim and Dive Team for all four years! Her favorite team memory is "cheering on her teammates at McCallie." Ayush started swimming at age six and was on the team for three years. His favorite memory is "playing football at McCallie."
