Here are the top three stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:
- The Milton City Council has deferred the approval of the District at Mayfield's draft zoning code after property owners raised concerns about late changes to the regulations. The district, covering approximately 18 acres in Crabapple, aims to preserve its unique identity and historic buildings through strict development regulations. Property owners expressed concerns about frontage requirements, potential eminent domain issues, and building height restrictions, leading to the decision to defer the vote to address these issues further. (Appen Media)
- During the Georgia GOP Convention, former President Trump addressed his recent federal indictment and criticized the lead prosecutor, Jack Smith, calling him "deranged." Trump claimed the charges against him were a political hit job and accused his political opponents, including President Biden and Hillary Clinton, of similar crimes. He also criticized Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis for focusing on investigating his election efforts instead of addressing rising crime rates in nearby Atlanta. (Fox 5)
- Georgia Power reported over 1,000 power outages on Sunday afternoon, with the majority concentrated in the Brookhaven area of DeKalb County. By 3:00 p.m., the number of affected customers had decreased to under 300. Several other counties, including Fulton, Clayton, Cobb, Jasper, Hancock, Wilkes, Columbia, and Bartow, also experienced a few outages. The cause of the power outages is unknown, and it is unclear if they were related to earlier storms in the area. (Atlanta News First)
