Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- The Milton Library has reopened after being closed for several weeks of renovations. The library was damaged when pipes burst during a deep freeze last winter. There is new carpeting, and baseboards and the walls have been repainted. During the project, over 60,000 books were moved along with furniture. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Now that summer is almost here, the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety wants to remind the public how to safely drive golf carts and low speed/personal transport vehicles. For example, driving a golf cart is not permitted on roads and sidewalks; they should be used only in golf courses and their paths. If you're driving a personal transport/low speed vehicle, you must stay on roads with a speed limit of lower than 25 mph. In addition, the vehicle must be fully functional with headlights, taillights, brake lights, etc. and drivers must have a valid license. (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
- Alpharetta police recently arrested a Roswell man for driving a very high speed (70 mph+) on Old Milton Parkway. Two cars were allegedly racing near the intersection of Old Milton and Haynes Bridge Road, and one stopped on the side of Old Milton Parkway. The driver was arrested for hazardous driving and brought to the North Fulton County Jail in Alpharetta. (Appen Media)
- A woman who was drowning in the Chattahoochee River was rescued by Roswell firefighters. The near drowning occurred on April 27 in the area around Don White Memorial Park near Riverside Road. They threw a rope to her, but she couldn't grab onto it. Two firefighters swam into the water and rescued her; they are Andrew Riley and James Laudermilk. The Roswell Fire Department is reminding the public to wear life jackets, don't swim alone and call for help if you see someone in distress. (Appen Media)
