Milton Updates Truck Route Ordinance

The ordinance provides a list of approved highways and streets certain trucks must use when they are traveling through Milton.

MILTON, GA — The Milton City Council earlier this month voted to amend its truck route ordinance designed to regulate how these particular vehicles navigate the streets they are tasked with maintaining.

The update to the ordinance states trucks whose gross weight exceeds 36,000 pounds or that have a length that's greater than 30 feet must only use the approved route while traveling through the city.

The following roads have been designated as truck routes in Milton:

Trucks meeting those guidelines must only use these routes while traveling through Milton. The only exceptions are when a vehicle's destination is a parking lot, repair garage or headquarters that's not on the approved route; a delivery or pickup is being made at a location that's not on the approved streets; or when a delivery or pickup is to be made by the truck to a location that's not on the route. The city notes those deliveries and pickups can only be made between the hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Milton's ordinance excludes vehicles that are primarily used for carrying passengers from its truck route ordinance. The city's original ordinance was adopted in 2007 and has been renewed every two years by the City Council members.
