Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. Students at Milton's Citizen Government Academy had a class on the city's parks, which was held at Milton City Park and Preserve. This park has over 130 acres including courts, a pool, Community Center and greenspace. The Parks and Recreation department oversees all of the City's parks, as well as athletic, arts , and other types of events for Milton.   2. City of Milton employees recently celebrated Holi, which is a South Asian festival. This festival is celebrated by Indians and others all around the world, and signifies the end of winter and a victory of good over evil. The employees enjoyed delicious Indian food, music and learned the meaning of Holi. (City of Milton)
  3. The City of Alpharetta is planning to upgrade Union Hill Park, and they are asking for public input on their plans, which will cost a budgeted $3.25 million. The goal of the plan is to recreate this area as a "recreational and gathering space that better meets the needs of current and future Alpharetta residents."   4. The Peking & Tokyo restaurant, located at 200 Park Brooke Drive in Woodstock, was recently scored unsatisfactory (57 out of 100) in an inspection. Issues that were noted include improper food storage, unsafe temperatures, sushi labeling and unsafe food handling. Foods in the refrigerator wasn't covered and sushi wasn't marked with a time of preparation. Moreover, employees touched foods with bare hands. This restaurant will be reinspected soon.( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)

  • Appen News recently hosted an event in Alpharetta called "Meet the Press". Approximately 50 citizens, communications professionals and newsmakers got together at July Moon Bakery for the company's first event in 2023. They discussed the Appen Press Club, met Appen staff and reports, and learned how news stories are researched. The newsroom’s next event is scheduled for late March. (Appen)
  • Plans for a Tim Hortons coffee shop on the corner of State Bridge Road and Abberley Lane in Johns Creek have resulted in discussions with residents of a nearby subdivision. They are concerned about noise, traffic and pedestrian safety. In addition, there are small business coffee shops in the area that could lose business. (Appen)
  • Mark your calendars for the 2023 Taste of Alpharetta, which will take place in downtown Alpharetta on May 11. This fun filled food event will feature 60+ nearby restaurants and admission is free.
