  1. Students at Milton's Citizen Government Academy learned about the Community Development Department, which provides economic development to the City. Community Development Director Robert Buscemi presented an overview of the department, and discussed its goals, which are to preserve Milton's character while maintaining a safe and healthy environment. He encouraged citizens to participate in public meetings and to provide input. He reminded students that "one of the reasons the City of Milton was established in 2006 was citizen’s desire to have more local control of things like zoning, development, and how those things and more affect the look and feel of Milton." (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  2. Do you know anyone who's looking for a summer job? The City of Milton is hiring for their summer camp program. They need managers, lead counselors and counselors. These positions are fun, and can "make a difference in children's lives. " (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  3. Gary Sylvestri, Milton High School's athletic director, is retiring after 13 successful years at the school. The school’s athletics department has 23 varsity sports, 90 coaches and over 1,000 athletes. They have won many championships, including a football state one in 2018. The position has many responsibilities, including managing "buses, clubs, custodians, facilities and parking at the school." After retirement, Sylvestri plans to spend more time with his family, continue being an associate pastor and start a "podcast called “Behind the Bench”. (Appen)
  4. 911 call centers across metro Atlanta are experiencing staffing issues, which could result in longer wait times in an emergency. Fulton, Gwinnett, DeKalb, Cobb and Clayton counties are reporting staffing shortages. Cobb County has suceeded in increasing the number of new employees by offering $4,000 signing bonuses for non-credited dispatchers and $8,000 bonuses for credited dispatchers.
