Milton's Memorial Day Ceremony Relocating to City Hall

The entire community is invited to attend the May 29 ceremony at 10 a.m.

From the City of Milton: Honoring deceased servicemen and women of Milton relatives every Memorial Day has been a tradition in Milton as long as the city has been in existence. Historically held at Milton's Freedom Park, located on Deerfield Parkway, the 2017 Memorial Day celebration will move to its new home on the plaza at Milton City Hall. The entire community is invited to attend the May 29 ceremony at 10 a.m.

Scheduled to speak at this year's event, Atlanta attorney Cary S. King who served in the U.S. Army and National Guard and was in the Infantry and Artillery in Vietnam. King, an active legal services volunteer serving veterans, was highly decorated receiving five Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and five Air Medals among a host of other commendations and awards.

This year's event will kick off with breakfast and coffee at 9 a.m. and open with Georgia skydiver Christian Stevens. The Memorial Day ceremony concludes with a roll call of veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Friends and family members of deceased veterans, as well as event attendees, are then invited to reflect upon the community markers created to honor their legacy. The markers are placed in Crabapple and along Deerfield Parkway by Councilman Bill Lusk with the nonprofit Milton Memorial Markers for Veterans.

"With Milton celebrating 10 years as a city and our rich tradition of honoring deceased veterans, it's only fitting that we would move the event to Milton's new city hall," said Lusk. "We have an incredible program planned to honor our veterans that involves a variety of community groups."

Shuttle parking will be available at Crabapple First Baptist Church at 12760 Birmingham Highway from 9 a.m. to noon with handicap parking available at Milton City Hall (2006 Heritage Walk).
