Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. A missing cow from Milton has been reunited with its owner. The cow managed to go through the gates of Crooked Creek and was seen near the area of Francis and Thompson roads. A neighbor saw the cow and alerted the police. After they put a picture of the cow on Facebook it was safely returned to its home. (WSB Radio)
  2. A local man is helping people in Florida affected by Hurricane Ian. Dan Francis of Cumming is organizing volunteers, restaurants and donations to provide meals with his nonprofit D911. “Imagine about a day after a storm and you have not had a hot meal," Francis explained. "If we can set up at a restaurant at a place where they would normally eat, if we can get that proprietor (to) come out to help us and let those donations go to that proprietor, it’s a community thing. Familiar food, familiar faces, familiar places.” Francis has done the same for victims of other storms in Florida, Louisiana and Georgia. (11 Alive)
  3. Crabapple Fest in Milton is today! It will take place in downtown Crabapple and there will be music, food, art and activities for the entire family. Football will be shown on a big screen so you can watch the big game. (City of Milton)

From my notebook:

  • Milton firefighters will be providing COVID-19 vaccines to residents on Monday. They will be running a clinic at Community Place, next to City Hall at 2006 Heritage Walk. The vaccine offered at this clinic will protect you from the newest versions of the virus in the area. (City of Milton)
  • The Roswell Wine Festival takes place this weekend in historic Roswell. Attendees can sample wines, listen to live music and will receive a commemorative glass. There will be a VIP only session on Saturday with premium wines and food, plus a general admission session on Sunday. (Roswell Wine Festival)
  • Last weekend's Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event in Milton yielded 450 pounds of antifreeze, 800 pounds of motor oil and 16 boxes of paint among other things. About 200 Milton citizens did a lot of good for the environment (rather than dump any of these materials in the regular trash), through this city-run event. Many groups worked together to make the event a success including YMSL Milton, the Cambridge CATS (a mother-daughter service organization), as well as Milton firefighters. • "The seasonal “burn ban” encompassing much of Georgia — including Milton and Alpharetta — ends Oct. 1." If you are planning to do an open burn, please make sure to burn smaller piles, burn on clear days and don't use flammable liquids to start the fire. Of course, never leave a fire unattended.
