Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. A Loganville man has been charged with one count of felony murder after he was arrested in connection with his mother’s murder in Forsyth County. Christopher Pino, 39, is accused of killing 61-year-old Tresa Slate after she was found unresponsive at her home. Detectives also discovered Pino had an outstanding warrant from Virginia for theft. If convicted of felony murder, Pino could face the death penalty. (Forsyth County)
  2. Another black bear has been spotted in the area! It was walking across a front lawn in Roswell. Over the last few months, bears have been spotted in Gainesville, Alpharetta, Gwinnett, Marietta and now Roswell. This is part of a yearly trend this time of year as the species gets ready for the winter. Female bears increase food intake and continue to teach foraging skills to their cubs, sometimes venturing to residential neighborhoods as they prepare for the upcoming winter. (City of Roswell)
  3. Carolyn Newton Curry, award-winning writer and historian, will be at the Alpharetta Library at 10 Park Plaze on Sept. 20 to discuss her new book at 6 p.m. Her husband, Bill Curry, a retired football coach and former player, will join her. She will be discussing her new release, “Sudden Death,” a murder mystery unfolding in the world of football, fitting since the author has lived her entire adult life as the wife of a player-turned-coach.
