Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Soon, there will be new brick walls around Alpharetta's town green to improve safety for citizens. The walls will be along the sidewalk of Highway 9 where it is adjacent to the green. The project is scheduled to be completed before September 29, in time for the Wire and Wood Festival. The city received three bids, and selected contractor Tri Scapes, who quoted the best price, which is $206,584. (Appen)
  2. Is your child interested in playing Alpharetta Youth Baseball this fall? Registration is open now and there are leagues for T-ball through 19u. Coaches are needed as well; AYBA is a volunteer association. (Alpharetta Youth Baseball Association via Facebook)
  3. Alpharetta's Fulton Science Academy, which is a private school, is getting four new tennis courts, concessions stand, additional driveway/ parking, field house and soccer field. The plans were approved by the Alpharetta Planning Commission after resolving concerns from the nearby Westwood Park subdivision. The concerns included additional traffic, lighting and public notification. This school has students from pre-K to twelth grade. (Alpharetta-Roswell Herald)

  • Milton's City Council is meeting this evening starting at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The agenda isn't completed yet; it will be on the city's website when it is done. (City of Milton)
  • Suwanee will be upgrading its playground and volunteers are needed. The new one will be at the same location and is designed to have minimal upkeep and be made from "environmentally- friendly materials. " They need 1,500 volunteers to assist with this project between October 9-15. Here is a link to sign up. (City of Suwanee)
  • Were you stuck in rush hour traffic on I-285 on Monday morning? The cause was an accident between a tractor-trailer and a car near the Perimeter. As a result, only lane was open for several hours. The tractor-trailer driver is being charged with DUI and reckless driving. The car driver and passenger were brought to the hospital and are stable (subscription: The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
