Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. A Milton father who's being deployed flew over Northwestern Middle School as a special treat for his daughter, who's a student there. Chief Warrant Officer 3 Josh Chason, along with other members of his Company, flew five Chinook helicopters over the school on their way from Maryland to Texas for their pre-deployment training. " We appreciate those involved in this week's fly-over, particularly, for creating such a meaningful memory for the rest of the Chason family and Northwestern students."(City of Milton)
  2. We are in a peak season for coyote activity for our area. Early Feb. through Mar. is breeding season, and they are more active during this time. As a result, you'll see them and hear their high pitched yipping during the evening. Don't leave garbage, pet food and small pets outside, even in fenced areas, to keep them away from your property. Coyotes aren't considered dangerous to people, and the City of Alpharetta discourages trying to trap or kill them unless they appear to be aggressive. (City of Alpharetta)
  3. Students at Milton's Citizens Government Academy had an informative class taught by Milton Police officers last week. Chief Rich Austin, Captain Charles Barstow, and Police Outreach Officer Logan Pacheco discussed department structure, schedules, cadet program and much more. It was an open and informal discussion where citizens learned that they are well protected by their officers. Students also received a tour of the department and the "Emergency Operations Center (EOC), which can be occupied during an extreme weather event or a crisis like a mass-casualty shooting. " (City of Milton)
  4. Are your children interested in making garden themed art? There is a class on that topic at the Alpharetta Arts Center for ages 10-14 , and students will create a Flower Power piece that will be displayed at the new outdoor Art Garden Exhibit! Classes start on March 1 and you can register now at www.alpharetta.ga.us/arts

  • If you're planning to drive on Webb Road in Milton today, you might want to try an alternate route. Due to work on the pavement (weather permitting), there will be one lane closed at a time between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The affected area is between west of GA-9 to Windward Parkway. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  • Students at New Prospect Elementary school had fun last week at their egg drop competition. They were joined by the Alpharetta Firefighters, who dropped their packages from the aerial ladder. A good time was had by all! (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
  • A Milton resident contacted the police because someone used his social security number to apply for a Uber driver job. He found out because he got an IRS letter stating that he had earned over $2,500 and had never worked for Uber. He contacted Uber about the fraud, and is waiting to hear back from the company.
