Parade Celebrating Milton Football Championship On Dec. 20

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. at Milton High School and continue on Birmingham Highway towards Heritage Walk.

MILTON, GA — The city and the Milton High School Touchdown Club will host a parade honoring the Eagles' first-ever football championship on Thursday.

The Parade of Champions will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 20, beginning at Milton High School and traveling along Birmingham Highway towards Heritage Walk. The Milton Eagles defeated south Georgia powerhouse Colquitt County in the Dec. 12 7A championship match at the Mercedes-Benz stadium.

The parade of football players, cheerleaders, and the band will temporarily conclude in front of City Hall with festivities on The Green, a private park owned and operated by Crabapple Market, which donated the space for this special occasion.

Milton-based 'Cue BBQ will be on-site serving free food while supplies last. Mayor Joe Lockwood will also present the team with an official proclamation, and guests hear from school officials, coaching staff and team captains. Championship T-shirts will be available for sale at the event, payable by cash, check or credit card.

"I didn't think anything could compare to the excitement of being in Mercedes-Benz Stadium with the team that night," said Mayor Lockwood. "But being able to recognize the team in this way and hosting the event in what has become Milton's downtown is pretty incredible for our community."

Due to scheduling constraints, parade organizers must move forward with the Thursday parade, despite weather forecasts.

"We're hoping the forecast improves," said Milton Communications Director Shannon Ferguson. "However, we're prepared to move forward with a little rain, canceling only if we experience severe weather conditions Thursday evening."

The community is invited to line the sidewalks from Milton High School to City Hall to view the parade and then walk over to The Green at Crabapple Market for the festivities. Parking is available at Crabapple Crossing Elementary School and Crabapple First Baptist Church, and limited parking will be available at City Hall.

The parade will include a rolling road closure for the parade route, and a short-term road closure for the section of Heritage Walk between Lecoma Trace and Itaska Walk. The roadway will reopen at 7 p.m. as the parade vehicles make their way back to Milton High School.

"Grab your raincoats and join us," said Community Outreach and Engagement Manager Courtney Spriggs. "We can't let a little rain get in the way of celebrating our Milton Eagles."

Should severe weather conditions require officials to cancel the parade, the City of Milton will post the event cancellation on the city's website calendar available at www.cityofmiltonga.us/calendar.
