1. 2 Major Retailers Closing GA Locations (patch.com) — Alpharetta shoppers are losing their GameStop at North Point Mall as part of nearly 400 store closures nationwide, including a dozen in Georgia. The company cites a shift toward digital gaming and underperforming locations, while Macy’s is also shutting one Atlanta-area store as it reshapes its brick-and-mortar footprint over the next three years.

Alpharetta City Council swears in 3 members (appenmedia.com) — Alpharetta has officially seated two new City Council members and one returning incumbent following a Jan. 5 swearing-in ceremony at City Hall. Residents now have Kirk Driskell in Post 1, Katie Reeves in Post 2, and Douglas DeRito returning to Post 3, alongside newly sworn municipal judges, solicitors, and board and commission members, all celebrated with performances by local music groups.

The guidance focuses on building realistic emergency funds, simplifying resolutions, and using “fresh start” dates like the New Year or birthdays to reset your financial habits without feeling overwhelmed or guilty.
   

4. Construction begins on Ramsey Student Center enhancements (uga.edu) — A University of Georgia student from Alpharetta is welcoming a major expansion of the Ramsey Student Center’s strength and conditioning space, now under construction in Athens. The project will convert former squash and racquetball courts into a 10,000-square-foot weight and fitness area, adding new equipment and more room for classes, with completion expected in fall 2026.
