Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:
- The project to replace the bridge over GA-400 on Kimball Bridge Road in Alpharetta started yesterday. The bridge is being replaced to allow the addition of two lanes on GA-400, and that portion of Kimball Bridge road will be closed for one year. The new lanes on GA-400 will be 16 miles long and will go from the MARTA North Springs Station to a mile north of Exit 12 in Forsyth County. Therefore, drivers should expect delays on Kimball Bridge Road as well as on GA-400 while construction is underway. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The Taste of Alpharetta is this Thursday, May 11. As a result, many of the roads in downtown Alpharetta will be closed to traffic. The closures will affect Route 9 between Old Milton Parkway/Academy Street from 10 a.m. on Thursday until 1 a.m. on Friday. There will be additional roads closed in the downtown area. If you're planning to attend the event, it is recommended that you use rideshare or take one of the shuttles. (https://tasteofalpharettaga.com/directions/)
- A dedicated group of volunteers worked at Milton's Birmingham Park picking up debris and clearing trails last weekend. They included "members of the Milton Trails Advisory Committee, Milton Equestrian Committee, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Mayor Peyton Jamison, Young Men’s Service League members and several community members." The park is located at 750 Hickory Flat Road and contains trees, hiking paths, horses and more! (City of Milton)
- Are you looking for a rewarding summer job? Milton's summer camps have openings for counselors. Camp activities at Milton's Summer Day Camp include swimming, tennis, arts and crafts and more. In addition, Camp Joyful Soles is for individuals with special needs who enjoy music, art therapy, take field trips and have other activities. Both camps start in just a few weeks. From my notebook:
- The City of Milton needs your input on planned improvements to "three intersections along Cox Road at State Route 140/Arnold Mill Road, Etris/Ebenezer roads, and King Road." Citizens are invited to attend an in-person session on Saturday, May 20 at Legacy Park (170 Cox Road). It will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. There is additional information available online at www.miltonga.gov/CoxRoad. This project is being funded by TSPLOST. (City of Milton)
- A Johns Creek woman was scammed out of $62,000 by a person she had met online. She met him on Match.com, and he told her he needed money to help his daughter in Australia. The suspect sent her checks that she thought were to repay her for a loan, but they were for a debit and not a deposit. The suspect attempted to open multiple bank accounts using her information and tried to withdraw additional money from the woman's account. (Appen)
- A recent inspection at Cow Wow Korean BBQ at 2850 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in Suwanee did not go well. The following issues were found, employee touching food with bare hands, incorrect temperature for stored food, improper storage of utensils, back door open with no protection against rodents and insects and other matters. There will be a follow up inspection later this week. (North Gwinnett Voice)
