Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. A Milton woman had a wonderful reunion with the firefighters who recently helped save her life. Iris Sherman, who moved to Milton just a few months ago, had choked on a piece of steak at her birthday dinner at Cabernet Restaurant in Alpharetta. 911 was called, and the firefighters used a video laryngoscope (or GlideScope) to remove that piece of steak to get her breathing, and she was then brought to the hospital. She had a reunion with the firefighters on Wednesday, which was captured by Atlanta News First, Neighborhood TV and the Milton Herald. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  2. Great news for our area — you can text 911 if you need help but cannot make a call. This technology was introduced in 2014, and it allows you to connect with a trained operator when you're in an emergency. You cannot send photos or videos and could receive a bounce back message if your carrier doesn't participate. In addition, you need to tell the operator your precise location when sending a text. It's always better to call, but this option is available when you cannot do that. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  3. A girl from Alpharetta was allegedly abducted by her non-custodial father earlier this week. Phillip Perry allegedly took his daughter, Jireh Carrice Marie Perry, from the Gwinnett Tech campus on Old Milton Parkway. Her mother had asked Perry to watch Jireh for one hour while she took a class. When she returned to the parking lot after class, they were both gone. Perry did not tell her where he was taking their daughter. (WSB Atlanta)
