Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. Alpharetta and Milton residents are experiencing a five cent per gallon rise in gas prices due to the OPEC production cut. Normally, prices drop in the fall due to lower demand.
    "According to the weekly press release from Montrae Waiters, the spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group, Georgia drivers are now paying an average of $3.22 per gallon for regular unleaded." (Cobb County Courier)
  2. Opa! The Cumming Greek Festival takes place this weekend at Bethelview Road. There will be live music, dancing, shopping and delicious food. "Once again, let the familiar scents of oregano and garlic, and the luxurious fragrance of coffee and cinnamon take you back to a simpler, tastier place." (Greek Festival)
  3. The City of Roswell is continuing to participate in a program to help low-income residents with their water bills. It's called the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program, and it's in coordination with the Georgia Department of Human Services. Roswell residents have been awarded nearly $7,500 since it began a year ago. Qualifications are based on income, type of household and other factors. (AJC)

  • The community can help clean up the Little River in Milton later this month. There is an event on Oct. 15 starting at 9 a.m. at Birmingham Park. The first 30 volunteers will get a free T-shirt! Trash bags will be provided to hold the refuse. (City of Milton)
