Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. In case you haven't heard, there will be a runoff election for the U.S. Senate race. Early voting starts on Monday, Nov. 28, and voters who registered by Nov. 7 are eligible to vote. The election date is on Tuesday, Dec. 6. It's recommended that you check where early voting will take place to make sure your location is open. Only a few more weeks with election ads! (GA Election)
  2. Kudos to Alpharetta's Sgt. Mark Tappan and Det. Caitlin Lawrence. They were named Officers of the Year for the second year in a row by Appen! Tappan works in uniform patrol and Lawrence works on criminal investigations. (Alpharetta Dept of Public Safety)
  3. The City of Milton is working on a property they purchased at 14620 Freemanville Road near the 137-acre Milton City Park and Preserve. This land will be used as a public open space. They demolished the building, which was owned by the Kennedy family at one time and was formerly the Milton Country Club. The barn and swimming pool will remain on the property. (City of Milton)

From my notebook:

  • Aaron William Davis, 21 from Cumming, was found murdered in Rome, Georgia off Tumlin Drive. Brandon Christopher Risner, also 21, was arrested on Saturday and is being held on no bond with charges of felony murder, concealing the death of another, aggravated assault and willful obstruction of law enforcement officers. A Rome PD spokesperson said Davis had several wounds that appeared to be from a bladed weapon. Davis and Risner both attended North Forsyth High School and Davis graduated in 2019. Davis went on to graduate from Brigham Young University, completed an internship last summer, and just passed an entrance exam for a master’s degree program. (Forsyth County News)
  • Want to do something fun with your little one on Friday mornings? Check out Tot Time (And You!), a free program offered by Alpharetta Parks and Recreation. It takes place at the Wills Park Recreation Center from 10:45-11:15 a.m. and is for children ages 1-4. Activities include songs, finger painting and other crafts. Caregivers are expected to stay and participate. (City of Alpharetta)
  • Motorists in our area need to watch out for deer. This time of year is their mating season and they will be running around more than usual. They tend to be more active when it's dark which makes it harder to see them. Car crashes with deer can be very dangerous and cause a good amount of damage. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
  • The Milton Choral Association is pleased to announce a performance of La Vie Boheme this Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. It will take place at Milton High School, 13025 Birmingham Highway. All proceeds to go the Chorus scholarship fund! (Milton Choral Association via Facebook)
