Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:
- Sid's Pizza & Grill's is having a grand opening of its Alpharetta location today. This popular Suwanee restaurant is opening a new location today at 11770 Haynes Bridge Road, Suite 301 in downtown Alpharetta. Come and celebrate their ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. (Sid's Pizza)
- The Milton Police Department is having a fundraiser to raise money for Special Olympics next month. They are conducting a Polar Plunge on Feb. 25. Here is a link if you're interested in making a donation or starting your own team. https://www.classy.org/team/47.... The proceeds will go to programs for the 17,000+ Georgia residents who have special needs. (City of Milton)
- Do you know how to call for help if you cannot speak? In Alpharetta and Milton, you can text 9-1-1 if you cannot talk, or talking would be dangerous. You cannot send photos or videos this way, and the texter needs to know his/her location. This feature could help save someone's life! (Alpharetta Department of Public Safety via Facebook)
- There was a fire at Peachtree Ridge High School in nearby Suwanee earlier this week, which caused the school to be evacuated. The fire was quickly put out, and no one was injured. "The Atlanta Journal-Constitution received video of a fire inside a bathroom at the school. The video shows toilet paper and its dispenser in a bathroom stall ablaze, emitting black smoke." Officials are determining the cause of this fire. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- Drivers in Buford were surprised on Tuesday when a plane landed on I-985. The single-engine Piper PA-28 had taken off from Gwinnett County airport and crashed into a semi-truck on the highway in the afternoon. "The Hazmats units removed 10 gallons of fuel from the aircraft before it could be moved." Fortunately, there were no injuries, and officials are determining the cause of the crash. (WSB Atlanta)
