Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. It's time to sign up for summer camp in Milton! Registration opened yesterday, and there are many different types of camps being offered. There will be sports programs for basketball, lacrosse, football and baseball. In addition, there are photography and art camps plus a new summer day camp offered at Milton City Park and Preserve. (City of Milton)
  2. Many homeowners will begin pruning crepe myrtles later this month. Overtrimming these beautiful trees can lead to "wispy branches that can’t support the voluminous blooms that are meant to appear each summer. " Instead of cutting back the branches, you may want to consider transplanting a tree if it becomes too tall. You can get information on the care of crepe myrtles in Alpharetta by calling 678-297-6229. (City of Alpharetta)
  3. Drivers on State Route 9 in Alpharetta have seen closed lanes, orange barrels and construction for months. This project's purpose is to relocate utility lines and create sidewalks; it is only about one third complete, according to GDOT. It is planned to be mostly complete in June 2024. Rain delays and material shortages could push that date out even more into the future. You can find the latest information on the State Route 9 Project by using the following links to get to the project pages on GDOT's website: Upper Hembree Road to Academy Street: https://bit.ly/3wMliqJ and Academy Street to Windward Parkway: https://bit.ly/3Hq3iaG. (City of Alpharetta)
  4. Holly Wings Shack in Canton did not score well during a recent inspection, including some repeat issues from a previous review. The inspectors found raw food not stored at a safe temperature, week-old coleslaw and employees weren't wearing hair restraints while preparing food. There wasn't time control documentation for leaving wings outside of the refrigerator and cell phones were on parchment paper used for food preparation. There will be a follow up inspection. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  5. Antisemitic messages have shown up recently on driveways in Sandy Springs and Dunwoody. Esther Panitch, a Georgia state lawmaker who's Jewish, had one in hers. "Panitch said she is co-sponsoring a bill that would clearly define antisemitism." It was a bag full of corn kernels and a flyer that called "the Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism and the primary source of Jewish-religious law, 'satanic.'" Police are investigating the propaganda. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
