Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:

  1. It's time to sign up for summer camp in Milton! It is located at Milton City Park and Reserve and campers can enjoy swimming, tennis, art, movies, hiking and much more. Children who have completed kindergarten through age 12 can sign up. Registration is limited to Milton residents until March 1. To sign up your child, go to www.miltonga.gov/Registration and click on “Milton Summer Camp.”
  2. Mark your calendars for Alpharetta Restaurant Week! It will take place from Feb. 26-March 4, and several restaurants are participating. They will offer a fixed price dinner and/or lunch menu and it is a great time to try someplace new or go to a favorite spot. You can see which restaurants are included with this link.   3. Alpharetta's Mayor Jimmy Gilvin gave the city very positive address on Feb. 15. It was sponsored by the Alpharetta Business Association. Here are some interesting facts: 24 percent of Alpharetta residents were born outside of the U.S. and Alpharetta issued more building permits than ever before in 2021, which means that the city continues to grow. "He said the three major things that make Alpharetta great are its public safety, its quality of life and its schools. " (Appen)
  4. North Point Community Church in Alpharetta held a recent business event as part of its Leadership Labs series. Andy Stanley, the church's founder and author, spoke about organizational leadership, effective decision making and planning, and how leadership has changed. It was well attended; over 1,000 people signed up for the event. North Point will hold its next Leadership Labs seminar online March 24. Ryan Jenkins, a renowned speaker and author will headline the event, will be focusing on the effects of loneliness in the workplace. You can sign up on the church's website. (Appen)
  5. A local restaurant was highlighted in the AJC's "Dish of the Week" column! It is 'Smoked salmon tartine' at Douceur de France. This establishment has locations at 1173 Alpharetta St. in Roswell and another one in Marietta. The dish has toasted rye bread, cream cheese, scrambled eggs, truffle and smoked salmon.   • Good news for drivers in Milton — the city is planning to optimize traffic lights at three intersections. They are working with GDOT on signals at the following intersections: GA 140/Arnold Mill Road at Cox Road, GA 372/Crabapple Road at Mayfield Road and GA 372/Birmingham Highway at Kensington Farms Drive. This optimization can help reduce bottle necks and reduce vehicle emissions by having appropriate signal timing. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  • A Norcross teenager was shot near his home earlier this week. The shooting occurred near Meadow Creek High School off Steve Reynolds Boulevard. Police brought him to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. Police are investigating this shooting and are asking the public contact them with any information. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at 770-513-5300. You can also submit an anonymous tip via CrimeStoppers at 404-577-TIPS. (11 Alive)
  • Some lucky girls received beautiful designer prom gowns last year through "Enchanted Closet, an all-volunteer Atlanta-based nonprofit offering year-round mentoring and an annual prom dress giveaway for middle and high school girls." They received donations of dozens of high-end gowns from Rich and Lori Rappaport of RJR Props valued at $35,000. The dresses were purchased for a set makeshift bridal store and were brand new.
