Here are the top stories today in Alpharetta-Milton:
- The Taste of Alpharetta is this evening, and tickets are 100 percent digital this year! You won't have to stand in line to buy tickets, which means you'll have more time to check out all the delicious food. You can download the app now and purchase tickets before you get there. Please note that the streets downtown will be closed before the event; avoid driving in the area. (City of Alpharetta GA via Facebook)
- Are you interested in cooling off at the Milton City Pool this summer? You can buy passes for the season now. There are different options for individuals and families, and discounted pricing for Milton residents. The pool will open on the Saturday before Memorial Day and is open until Labor Day. (City of Milton)
- Milton's online web portal that's used for permits, plan reviews, and other services will be unavailable today starting at 9 a.m. due to system upgrades. During the outage, citizens can email" inspectionrequest@miltonga.gov on Thursday (during the outage) if they want to schedule an inspection." It might be back up later in the day, but that's not guaranteed. (City of Milton, Georgia - Government via Facebook)
- Many businesses in downtown Roswell are opposed to closing down part of Canton Street to drivers over the weekends during the summer. The mayor recently met with business owners who expressed concern about issues including "parking, public safety, adequate accessibility for the elderly and people with disabilities and connectivity to parks." The city is planning to build a new parking deck over the next two years. The mayor is holding a public meeting with business owners next week to discuss this matter. - An Alpharetta business contacted the police because checks worth more than $56,000 were forged and cashed. The business believes they were stolen from the mail because they were mailed to customers during March and April. An audit showed that they had been cashed by different recipients. Two checks worth more than $44,000 were cashed, and the bank stopped processing another one for $11,745.44. (Appen Media)
