Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Alpharetta and Milton are renegotiating with Fulton County on how Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) revenues will be distributed. LOST is an important revenue source for Alpharetta and Milton; it helps to keep our property tax millage rate low and generates funds for government services like police, fire, stormwater systems, and recreation. Please join us on Sept. 21 at a Town Hall for a panel discussion on the Local Option Sales Tax, current negotiations, and the potentially dramatic effect on our community at Roswell City Hall, 38 Hill St., Roswell starting at 7 p.m. (City of Alpharetta)
  2. Johns Creek residents will see no changes in its tax millage rate next year but bills might increase due to higher property values. The overall value of property in Johns Creek has increased 9.5 percent from $4.9 billion last year to $5.4 billion in 2022. Most of the change is attributed to reassessments of existing real property. (Appen)
  3. Today is the last day to join the YMCA and save money. Here are some of the benefits of being a member: one-on-one support from a trained and certified wellness coach, access to 19 YMCAs in metro-Atlanta and nationwide, group exercise classes and wellness workshops. There are no joining fees through the end of August. (Ed Isakson/Alpharetta Family YMCA via Facebook)

From my notebook:

  • The Rotary Club recently hosted an ice cream scooping event with incredible homemade ice cream at The Drake House in Roswell. "Thank you to our fabulous Rotarians, Jill Bernard and Matthew Khodoyari who created some YUMMY and unique flavors!" It was wonderful to see all the smiling faces out there supporting an incredible charity. (Rotary Club of Alpharetta via Facebook)
  • Bring your chairs and blankets and join us Sept. 2 and 9 for free concerts at Alpharetta City Center. The Alpharetta Rotary club is sponsoring concerts by KT Collaborative and The Brotherhood, a Doobie Brothers Tribute Band. The concerts are from 7-11 p.m. (Rotary Club of Alpharetta via Facebook)
