Teen Charged In TX Crash That Killed Alpharetta Family: Report

The 17-year-old is facing multiple charges in connection with the Texas crash that killed a Georgia family three months ago, a report says.

ALPHARETTA, GA — A 17-year-old is facing charges in connection with the December 2023 Texas crash that killed an Alpharetta family of six, Atlanta News First reported.

Luke Resecker was charged on suspicion of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, the outlet reported, citing the Texas Department of Public Safety.

"Due to an unspecified 'ongoing medical condition,' 17-year-old Resecker wasn’t fit to be booked into the Johnson County Jail. He posted the $50,000 bond and was released," Atlanta News First reported.

A woman, her two children, her parents and a cousin were all killed in the Johnson County, Texas, crash around 4 p.m., Dec. 26, 2023 near Dallas.

They were identified as Naveena Pothabathula, 36; 9-year-old NishiDharaman Pothabathula; 11-year-old Kruthik Srinarayan Pothabathula; Nageswararao Ponnada, 64; and Sitamahalakhmi Ponnada, 60.

Their 28-year-old cousin, Rushil Barri, also died in the crash. Naveena Pothabathula's husband survived the fatal crash.

The crash happened on U.S. Route 67 near County Road 1119, northeast of Nemo in the Dallas area, authorities said in the past.

A 2014 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south when it entered the northbound lane in a no-passing area and hit head-on a 2021 Honda Odyssey that Barri was driving, authorities said in the past.

The driver of the Silverado and his passenger suffered critical injuries and were transported to receive medical care, authorities said in the past.
