Here are the top stories in Alpharetta-Milton today:

  1. Alpharetta's Wills Park's Wacky World playground is being upgraded and the city is seeking input from local children on its design. The new playground will have new equipment, better accessibility, increased safety and more. Children can provide input by downloading a form at www.wackyworld.org and emailing the finished drawing to hello@wackyworld.org. There will be an initial review of plans at Alpharetta Elementary School on March 28 at 5:30 p.m. (Press Release Desk)
  2. A Johns Creek man contacted police because he received threatening text messages and calls related to a dating site. He initially paid $800 for a date on the “asstok.com” website, and the date never showed up. He contacted his bank about the fraud and received a refund to his account. He then received text messages and emails demanding $2,500, and they referenced his relatives and home address. "The individual also sent him an image of five beheaded human heads and noted the same thing would happen to him." (Appen)
  3. An Atlanta man has been sentenced to prison for stealing data to attempt to defraud businesses of over $12 million. Christian Akhatsegbe, Emmanuel Aiye Akhatsegbe and others obtained employee information and sent out fraudulent invoices. They stole the data by sending out phishing emails and using other methods to companies in the U.S. and United Kingdom. For example, a company in the United Kingdom responded to "a phishing email, which resulted in their credentials being logged, stolen, and later stored on a computer server that was accessed and maintained by Christian Akhatsegbe and his conspirators." Using this data, they sent out a fraudulent invoice for $434,383.45 to another company employee, which was paid. (WSB Atlanta)
  4. Many people in our area are celebrating Nowruz, which is known as Persian or Iranian New Year. It is celebrated at the beginning of spring and fires are set on its eve to "signify renewal and regeneration." Then, people conduct spring cleaning, plant trees, purchase clothes and decorate their homes. "The City of Milton wholeheartedly wishes a Happy Nowruz to our residents and neighbors who are celebrating!" (City of Milton)
