Army Veteran Adds Name to List of Republicans Running for 10th Congressional District Seat

Milledgeville resident Stephen Simpson announced Wednesday plans to seek the seat being vacated by Paul Broun.

Stephen Simpson, a retired ArmyΒ lieutenant colonel,Β has announced plans to run forΒ Georgia’s 10th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014,Β the Athens Banner-Herald reports.Β 

Republican Paul Broun, who currently holds the seat, plans to run for Senate, asΒ Sen. Saxby Chambliss announced in JanuaryΒ he would not seek a third term.Β 

Simpson announced his candidacy, the Banner-Herald reports, Wednesday, June 19, at the Oconee Veterans Park.Β Click hereto read the full report.Β

Other RepublicansΒ who have announced plans to seek the 10th Congressional District post includeΒ Jody Hice, a minister and conservative talk show host,Β State Rep. Donna SheldonΒ of Dacula,Β Mike Collins, a businessman and son of a former congressman,Β andΒ party activistΒ Brian Slowinski.Β 

The 10th Congressional District includes Barrow County, as well as the southern portion of Clarke County, Oconee and Walton, and part of Gwinnett, amongΒ other counties in Georgia.Β
