Belly Dancers Shimmy for Project Safe
Athens area dancers joined the movement to raise awareness of the art form in honor of World Belly Dance Day.
Athens area belly dancers on Saturday celebrated World Belly Dance Day flash mob style with performances at the Athens Farmers Market, the Project Safe Thrift Store and the University of Georgia Arch.
Later that night the dancers hosted a hafla -- a community dance party, with
performances, drumming and food-- at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Athens as a fundraiser for Project Safe.
"Our Shimmy Mob was a success!," said dancer Rhiannon Eades. "We were able to raise just over $400 for Project Safe ($417, to be exact), and a good time was had by all."
