Bulldogs Monday: What They're Saying About Resurgent UGA
Georgia football's shellacking of Coastal Carolina renews some hope for the 2011 season.
No one was surprised that the Georgia Bulldogs beat Coastal Carolina on Saturday for their first win of the season -- least of all Coastal Carolina Coach David Bennett. But some commentators, like SB Nation's Doug Gillett, took heart in the Dawgs' focus, and in many fans' committment to showing up after an 0-2 start.
Here's some of the other postgame coverage and commentary:
- AJC Junkyard Blawger Bill King had a different take on fan committment, reporting "10,000 or so empty seats" and noting that Georgia failed to sell out a game for the first time in the Mark Richt era. Many of the tickets still for sale at the end of the week were "unclaimed UGA student tickets,” King reports, adding, "I’m afraid it probably will take a victory over a quality SEC opponent to get the student body fired up again."
- David Ching notes for ESPN.com's DawgNation that UGA's defense held firm from the beginning.
- The Athens Banner-Herald reports that coach Mark Richt "does not want to attach any more importance on beating Ole Miss beyond staying afloat in the SEC East."
- Vineyarddawg posts on SB Nation that "[t]he impressive-looking 59-0 ledger ... does not mean that everything went well for the Dawgs."
