Care for a Little History With Your Box Lunch?

Get out of town and get to Lexington in Oglethorpe County this weekend. 

You’ll meet some fascinating people, enjoy delicious food, see cool, historic places and leave with the satisfaction that you’ve helped in the preservation and restoration of the historic Lexington Presbyterian Church. Built by John Newton in 1892, the church is on the Georgia Trust’s “2013 Places in Peril” list.

Whom will you meet?

Meriwether Lewis, for one. He’s half of the leadership of the Lewis and Clark exploration team. He lived in Oglethorpe County in the 1700s.

Jim Smith for another. He’s a farmer who had amassed one of the state’s largest farms by the early 1900s. And Thomas Goulding, the first pastor of the Lexington Presbyterian Church and founder of the first theological seminary in Georgia.

There will be carriage rides, self-guided tours and box lunches. And wonderful weather.

Attendees can meet historical characters at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. Come 30 minutes early if you want to buy a ticket in person, and do so at Goodness Grows. Or you can order on line. Tickets can be purchased here.
