Israel: A Story of Innovation

Speaker Shai Robkin is the President and CEO of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce Southeast Region.

Israel is a country of 7.9 million people with few natural resources.

It is surrounded by enemies, in a constant state of war since its founding only 65 years ago. And, yet, according to the Council on Foreign Relations, it produces more start-up companies than large, peaceful, and stable nations like Japan, China, India, Korea, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

In 1981, he and his wife Judy opened Israel’s first bookstore-coffee shop in Jerusalem. After returning to the United States, they purchased and expanded a small library supplies business. The technology arm of that business subsequently morphed into Bibliotheca, a global library tech company.
