"Know Before You Go," and Deal With Your Stuff While You're Alive

Archives Month is celebrated every October.

By Rhiannon Eades

Ever wonder what happens to personal papers after someone’s passing?

As part of Archives Month, the Athens-Clarke County Library presents a program on personal effects and archives called, β€œKnow Before You Go,” on Wednesday, October 9, at 6:00 p.m. in the library’s Appleton Auditorium.

Librarian Laura Carter will talk about how you can make sure your personal effects end up where you want them. This class will discuss records including where they wind up, how they can be stored and why they’re kept. You will also learn proactive steps you can take toward retaining or dispensing with your records. Learn how to prepare for an archives visit and the difference between library and archival collections.

Archives Month is celebrated each October as a way to celebrate the value of Georgia’s historical records, publicize the many ways historical records enrich our lives, and recognize those who maintain our communities’ historical records. This year’s theme is, β€œCurrent Events, Future History.”
