UGA Student Tells Cops He Was Beaten and Robbed

A UGA student told Athens-Clarke County police officers he was the victim of a robbery and a beating late Sunday night.

According to a police report, the student said the incident happened when he was leaving a convenience store at Prince Avenue and Barber Street around 11:45 p.m. on Feb. 10. He recalled hearing someone say, “Hey,” and as he turned, he says he was tackled to the ground.

The alleged victim believes that while he was on the ground, two men went through his pockets and removed his wallet which contained identification, a debit card, and maybe $1, the police report says.

The student also said he was punched in his face and kicked in the ribs. He  described the attackers as two black men in their late teens to early 20s, of average height and weight, and wearing dark clothing.

After the attack, the student told authorities he went home and fell asleep. When he woke Monday morning, he went to the UGA Student Heath Center to be checked. The Athens Clarke County Police were notified around 6pm Monday.
