Weed Warriors Return to Battle Invasives at Memorial Park on October 19th

"A healthy forest is more likely to repel invasive by exotics," says Warrior Linda Chaffin. "That's what we're hoping to create."

This Saturday, from 9:30 to 12:30am, the intrepid Weed Warriors begin their fifth season of battling the invasive plants in Memorial Park. Everyone is welcome to come help. The warriors have cleared almost ten acres of the park and plant to add to that total this fall and winter. Follow signs from the upper parking lot at Memorial Park (next to the pink administration building), down the road to the loading dock under the zoo building. Bring water. Wear long pants, closed-toe shoes and a long-sleeved shirt, because there’s poison ivy everywhere. There will be poison ivy protection (lotion and arm covers) and all of the tools and gloves you’ll need. There’s a task for everyone to do, no matter what your strength. If you miss this Saturday, don’t worry: the first and third Saturdays of each month, from November through March, are work days also.
