What Did the Athens Clarke County Commission Do Tuesday Night?
The Commission is planning a retreat on December 9th.

Princess Davenport spoke for many in her Kennedy Circle subdivision Tuesday night when she said, "No," to a personal care home proposed by Duluth resident Kim Powers. "We got everything going on, and we don't need it," she said.
Mayor Nancy Denson agreed with her. She cast the deciding no vote after the Athens County County Commission split 5-5 on whether to allow the three-person facility to be established at 260 Kennedy Circle.
Here are more highlights of the two-and-a-half-hour meeting:
* Delayed the demolition of a house at 545 West Cloverhurst until November 21st. Commissioners Mike Hamby and Kathy Hoard are meeting with 17 homeowners on Cloverhurst who want to discuss extending the historic district across Stanton Drive.
* Approved the expansion of the Animal Shelter and the streetscape plan for Clayton Street.
* Approved a request to rezone a planned development for the Southern Mills property, known as Millworks, on Oneta Street for mixed use purposes, to allow artists who live in the complex to sell their works there as well. Commissioner heard that the roofs on some of the buildings have failed, and the developers want to move quickly on the project.
* Approved a special use permit for the S&K Bike Shop and DGH Properties at 210 and 212 Foundry Street. The Sigma Chi fraternity can now move into the building that for years has housed Flagpole Magazine.
* With Commissioner Jared Bailey voting no, changed the requirements for developers to build sidewalks in industrial zones.
* Tabled a proposal to change buffer requirements around ponds, wetlands and lakes.Â
