Woman Struck by Car As She Retrieved Cell Phone From Roadway

Around 2:40am on September 8, aΒ 36-year-old woman fromΒ Hawthorne Extension got out of a car that had stopped in the center turn lane of Commerce Road. She had been heading north.
She did so to retrieve a cell phone that had fallen out of the vehicle.
A 21-year-old woman from Commerce was driving south, toward Athens, in a Saturn VUE. The 36-year-old stepped into the lane of traffic and the southbound driver hit her.
The injured woman was taken toΒ ROBINSON was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. No charges have been filed as the investigation continues.Β
