Students and staff members were safe, according to a Facebook post from the Barrow County Fire Department, citing school officials.

Multiple deputies were dispatched to each school for added security, with sweeps being completed on the impacted campuses, authorities said.

"The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office, and their law enforcement partners, would like to thank the Barrow County community for their patience and confidence as we worked through this situation. The investigation into the source of the phoned-in threats continues and updates will be provided as more information becomes available," authorities said in a news release shortly before noon.

The lockdown closed roads around the schools, and parents were asked not to visit their child's schools during the investigation.

Similar threats were recently made at schools in other districts, authorities said.

Apalachee is where Colt Gray, 14, was accused of shooting and killing two teachers and two students on Sept. 4, 2024.

Colt Gray, who was indicted in October on 55 counts, was charged on suspicion of felony murder and malice murder in connection with the shooting that claimed the lives of students Christian Angulo and Mason Schermerhorn, both 14, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53.

Colin Gray, the father of Colt Gray, was charged on suspicion of multiple counts of murder, second-degree cruelty to children and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the deadly shooting.

On Wednesday, Fox 5 Atlanta reported Colin Gray was set to go to trial on Sept. 8. He pled not guilty and was granted bond for $500,000 in February.

Months after the deadly shooting, a second Apalachee student was arrested after authorities said they brought a gun to the school campus.

Barrow County Schools have since placed weapons detection systems at its high schools and were planning to put these systems in its middle schools for added security, Fox 5 reported.
