Woman Attacked With Acid At GA Park, FBI Offers $5K Reward For Info

The GA woman's son told reporters "he could hear her agonized screams over the phone" when he was notified about the acid attack.

SAVANNAH, GA — The FBI's Atlanta office is offering a $5,000 reward in hopes of finding the suspect who targeted a woman walking in a Georgia park, dousing her with acid . The woman was severely burned in the incident last week.

The FBI said the attack happened around 8:15 p.m. Dec. 10 at Forsyth Park in Savannah, where an unknown male in dark clothing approached the woman from behind and poured the acid on her. Authorities have not released a suspect description.

The woman's family identified her as 46-year-old Ashley Wasielewski. Westley Wasielewski, her son, told the Associated Press his mother had attended a church Christmas program and was walking laps at the park.

When Westley Wasielewski received a call from a bystander, he told reporters "he could hear her agonized screams over the phone."

He said his mother suffered second- and third-degree burns and was being treated at a burn center in Augusta.

A woman is doused with acid around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday at Forsyth Park in Savannah.

Additionally, he told the news outlet the burns covered about half her body, which include her scalp, face, hands and legs.

“We don’t know who did it,” he told the Associated Press. “She doesn’t have any enemies. She is a friend to everyone.”

Friend Connor Milam said Ashley Wasielewski thought water had been poured on her until her skin began to burn. Milam told the Associated Press that "... her pants were starting to burn off her body. She started screaming.”

Milam later continued: “They didn’t rob her. They didn’t take anything from her. This was a random person in the park who went out of their way to disfigure another human being.”

The FBI said the $5,000 reward is in exchange for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
